Born on 14th June 1957, Leonard “Len” Blavatnik is a London based successful investor and businessman. He is also a prominent philanthropist. Len invested through his conglomerate enterprise- the Access Industries into various stocks, earning him a great fortune. In 2015 Len was recognized as the richest man of the entrie Britain. Len was born to a Judaic family in Odessa. While Len was attending the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, his parents constantly applied for emigration visas. In 1978, Len, along with his family, emigrated to the US. He completed his masters in computer science from Columbia University. In 1989 did he complete his MBA degree from Harvard Business School.
Len is the president and chairman of Access Industries, which he founded in 1986. Subsequent to the fall of communism in Russia, Len moved into Russian investments. He also has various prominent stakes in South America, North America and Europe. In the August of 2005, Access Industries bought the plastics and petrochemical manufacturing company Basell Polyolefins for $5.7 billion. Len was fast in seeing the opportunity presented by Rocket Internet and Beats Music. Both of these ventures are today estimated to have multi billion dollars of net worth. Later in 2003, he sold 50% of its stakes to British Petroleum forming the TNK-BP alliance; which became one of Russia’s prominent oil supplying companies. Len served on the Board of Directors of TNK-BP and led the company to even higher grounds. Len is the owner of ‘Al Film’- the production company behind Lee Daniel’s well acclaimed film ‘The Butler’ and the 2015 hit Mr. Holmes.
