Born on September 5, 1929 George Newhart is a well known American actor and comedian. Bob is remembered for his deliberately emotionless style of delivery. Bob gained recognition with his album The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart in the ’60s. The album was a great success and immediately topped the Billboard pop album chart and is still ranked the 20th best selling comedy album of all times. The succeeding album The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back! was another massive hit and earned Bob great fame throughout the world. Bob recieved three Grammy Awards in 1961 (Album of the Year, Best Comedy Performance and Best New Artist).

Subsequently Bob made a successful career in acting. Bob starred in the long running situation comedies The Bob Newhart Show (in the 90s) and Newhart (in the 80s). Both of these shows were greatly loved by the audience and won various awards at different ceremonies. Bob returned in the 90s with two more sitcoms “George and Leo” and “Bob”. Both the shows were quite short living but still gained much love from the audience. Some of the Bob’s most rememberable performances in movies are from Catch 22 (the role of Major Major) and “Elf”(the role of Papa Elf). The voice of Bernard in the animated movies Rescuers Down Under and The Rescuers was given by Bob Newhart.

Bob portrayed the role of Judson (the library head) in the movie (made-for-TV) The Librarian. The character continued to be portrayed in the 2014 television series The Librarian. Bob made four guest apperences on the American sit- com The Big Bang Theory; the first on in 2013. On September 15, 2013 was he awarded his first Primetime Emmy Award.

Bob married Virginia “Ginnie” Quinn, daughter of the American actor Bill Quinn. The couple was blessed with four children (Timonthy, Courtney, Jennifer and Robert) and nine grandkids.
